Tuition to increase next year. College president - Dr. Henry Bienen - recently said that because of the current financial crisis, the losses in the endowment fund, and the recent passage of Proposition 58 requiring balanced budgets, the school was going to have to raise tuition by $12,450 next year ($6,225/semester). Fortunately, the school had discovered that Section 503(C) of the recently passed Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008 indicates that if the school's federally chartered credit union increases its deposits by 3.25% ($15 million) before April 2009, then the school can qualify for federal assistance as part of the $700 billion financial institution bailout. As a consequence, everyone is going to have to provide a credit union account number before they can register for spring semester classes. |
